Itinerary

Arrive in Kathmandu, the capital city of Nepal, and transfer to your hotel. Spend the day exploring the vibrant city and preparing for the trek.

Take a domestic flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj, a city in the southwestern region of Nepal. Overnight stay in Nepalgunj.

Take a short flight from Nepalgunj to Juphal, the starting point of the trek. Begin trekking towards Dunai, the district headquarters of Dolpa. The trail passes through terraced fields and follows the Bheri River.

Continue trekking along the trail that goes through forests of pine, oak, and juniper. Cross suspension bridges and pass through quaint villages before reaching Chhepka.

Trek through lush forests and alongside the Suli Gad River. Visit the traditional Amchi Hospital, where Tibetan medicine is practiced.

Reach Ringmo, a picturesque village near Phoksundo Lake. Enjoy stunning views of the surrounding mountains.

Rest and acclimatize at Phoksundo Lake, one of the deepest and most beautiful lakes in Nepal. Explore the area and take in the breathtaking scenery.

Leave Ringmo and head towards the spectacular waterfall known as Sulighat. Continue trekking to Chunemba, a small settlement with traditional stone houses.

Ascend through pine forests and cross a suspension bridge over the Sulighat River. Reach Lar Tsa, a campsite with mesmerizing mountain views.

Trek through rocky terrain and traverse meadows as you make your way to Mendok Din, offering panoramic vistas of the valley.

Today is one of the challenging days of the trek. Cross the high Shey La Pass and descend to Shey Gompa, a spiritual site with a famous monastery.

Take a day to rest and explore the ancient Shey Gompa, known for its ancient Buddhist art and cultural significance.

Descend through a juniper forest and follow the trail that leads to the quaint village of Namduna Gaon.

Trek through arid landscapes and barren hills to reach Saldang, the largest village in the Dolpo region.

Continue along the Nang Chu River and cross several picturesque villages before arriving at Sibu.

Ascend to Jeng La Phedi, a camping site at the base of the Jeng La Pass.

Climb up to Jeng La Pass, offering stunning views of the Dhaulagiri and other peaks. Descend to Tokyu Gaon, a village with a prominent monastery.

The final day of trekking takes you through the beautiful village of Dho Tarap before reaching Jomsom. From Jomsom, take a scenic flight back to Pokhara and then to Kathmandu.

  • Emergency Evacuation: In case of a severe medical emergency that requires helicopter evacuation, the cost is not covered in the package and should be covered by your travel insurance or paid separately.

What permits are required for the Dolpo Trek?

For the Dolpo Trek, you need to obtain several permits. The primary permits required are the TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) card and the Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP). Additionally, since Dolpo includes Shey Phoksundo National Park, you will also need the Shey Phoksundo National Park Entry Permit. These permits are essential for trekking in the region and for preserving its unique natural and cultural heritage.

When is the best time to do the Dolpo Trek?

The ideal time for the Dolpo Trek is during the trekking seasons in Nepal: spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These months offer stable weather conditions, clear skies, and comfortable temperatures, making the trekking experience more enjoyable. Spring brings colorful blooms and blossoms, while autumn offers excellent visibility of the surrounding mountain ranges. The monsoon season (June to August) and winter (December to February) are not recommended due to heavy rainfall, slippery trails, and extreme cold temperatures, respectively.
